It goes without saying that 2020 was a tough and largely shit year. And unfortunately it isn’t currently looking like 2021 is going to be much different.
Covid brought challenges through 2020 that nobody was anticipating. My own business faced insolvency at one point and I know many still struggling to get through with no clear knowledge of a silver lining in sight.
It has, by no small margin, changed plans and general outlooks beyond comparison. At the start of 2020 my business was a local tourism marketing company and I worked from a high-tech plush studio with 7 screens, and decks with all my desired gear to boot.
By Easter my business was twas but an empty box. I’ve spent most of the year working from a laptop and early on had to sell most luxury stuff to get through. We’d already had a tough winter and by Easter – the season point when we recoup – it’s all fell in its arse with Covid.
As it has for many of us.
In the process of fighting our way through the year all other personal projects have fallen by the wayside.
Live-dj and NORT both require financial input beyond hobby money and with the DJ scene on its arse it’s just a bad time for everyone and is a shit time to start promoting DJ self promotion toolkits.
And just as much as anything, my own blog has grown completely irrelevant and out of date.
My blog had 3 posts in 2020, mostly explaining why I’d not posted, and almost every post from 2019 referred to projects and plans that are now either completely shelved or so far on the shelf I’ve no idea where I’m upto with it.
I’ve recently started committing time to music again – because my soul needs it – but I genuinely don’t know where I am with any projects.
There doesn’t seem to be a single thing that I can carry on from considering how much things have changed in the last 12 months.
I’ve been looking at an out of date blog feeling completely stumped on what to do next except for an overwhelming desire for something new.
Financial investment isn’t an option at the moment and none of the old projects are pulling me in.
Fuck knows.
So, I’m gonna take the good old zen approach and let it happen naturally. I’ve been enjoying some good jams recently with some beautiful music and I’m just going to start completely fresh with a humble blog about my DJing and the stuff I’m enjoying at the moment.
It seems appropriate. I’m at base level in more ways than one.
Im currently on 2 x 1210s with an old Technical championship mixer. I’ve got about 1 sample record ? and can play my digital tunes through my speakers via the S2.
Can’t stream yet because the S2 doesn’t allow the decks as an input so I’m stumped until I figure it out. No scratching or vinyl work is actually going through the computer.
My first port of call for January is a Z2 mixer so I can stream again. That’s pretty much step one.
From there, I’ll do whatever step next springs to mind. Or whatever other step pops up in the meantime.
Cheers for reading. Just don’t read between the lines xxxx
