The Whys & the Hows!

The fundamental reason this website, blog and radio station exists is so that I can constantly stream my own music to myself, in my office, during the day, in the evenings, or whenever I want to have my own tunes, in the background, with the minimum of fuss. I’m a selfish bugger but with a bit of luck, after 20 odd years doing this, I’ve got a set of taste buds you might agree with and I hope my radio station keeps a few of my friends entertained.

The radio station here is, and always will be, an amatuer work in progress, The playlist and schedules will be constantly tweaked and I’ll constantly work on improving the interludes and breaks without ever broaching on anything beyond humour or entertainment. I wont ever introduce advertising to the radio.  I also like to live-stream every now again and I have a small circle of the very finest DJs who don’t mind playing the odd set here and there.

To those DJs, I am very grateful and love each and every set that anyone cares to play through the radio and live-video-lounge right here at the website.

I’m a take-the-piss kind of guy but genuinely wish everyone the very best and those close to me know that, for me, music is the answer to many stresses and problems. I can genuinely get anything out of my system with a set of decks. Unfortunately, I spoil myself by being a bit blunt socially and I’m not the best in public. Not something I’m proud of – in fact, something I’ve battled with my whole life but it is what it is. I love my family, my music and my friends regardless of the grump I’m known for being.

This blog and website is my escape from my everyday life of running my business and trying my best to give my family members the best, quality time I can. One thing I’ve learned in my years is there are a few areas you really need to cherish, nurture and nourish in life. Your closest loved ones and friends, your family and, possibly most importantly, yourself.  This website is me catering to myself – but also sharing my love for modern DJ talent, and music, in the most direct way I can possibly do so.

By the way, this is a fully licensed radio station, put together purely as an alternative place –  for you – to hear great music!.  We also have a live-stream Video lounge for our live shows and everyone is welcome to join the video lounge where we have live chat rooms, including private chat, so you can even create your own little chat bubbles with your closest if you’re worried about other people spreading some sort of virus.

Outside of the live DJ sets, there is a 24/7 radio station featuring playlists of the very finest music ranging across a selection of the darker and smokier shades of DJ music. It might not be mixed, but it is a genuine resource of great music I hope you love. And there’s no advertisements and no chance of that changing in the future. Use the navigation at the top of the page to visit our radio page and see todays schedule. Or just click here. I promise to keep the radio here authentic and at a grass-roots level.

The primary goal is to create a 24/7 stream of music that is entirely entertaining even when DJ’AP (The resident “AtuoPilot” Bot Droid DJ) is playing our playlists and sets. No crap, just great sets of great playlists, with great live-dj sets whenever possible.

On a more personal level,

If you ever want to visit my home town you just need to head to the border of Alabama in the United States, then shift around 4,200 miles East(ish) across the North Atlantic to Blackpool in the UK. That’s possibly the long way round but who cares, it’s fairly accurate directions nonetheless and I’m sure you’ll sort it with Google maps.

I’m a UK DJ and I’ve played with music and decks pretty much all my life. My passion for hip hop came from the older lads doing the local hip hop battle rounds in the Fylde Coast in the early to late ’80s. I gained my love for mixing music from – no, not some big-time DJ – Hooked On Classics.  Yeah baby!

I was then introduced to scratching and Turntablism at around the age of 13 by a local talent who I won’t mention without permission. But yeah, I saw the decks in proper action and that was me. I didn’t actually own my first set of turntables until a few years later at 18. Was a proper skint young lad and Technics weren’t much cheaper back then.  But when I did get on a set, I became an unsociable hermit and locked myself away for many long days. The next 10 years we’re full of great times, opportunities and plenty of battles, which I’ll go into in my blogs, and I gained a reputation of being at the top levels of technical talent.

Unfortunately, being social isn’t my strongest point and being a DJ requires a less grumpy nature than mine. For various reasons (mental health) I don’t really choose to even think about any more, a DJ career was never really more than a hobby with a few really nice highlights (like an MTV scratch appearance way back when it was cool). It’s no sob story. I’m a happy guy. I own a couple of businesses and I’m married with two boys. Life’s good. Much better than the turmoil of my 20’s. DJing has always been around – and probably will be until I pop my cloggs.

This blog is just my personal online space for my mixes, thoughts, and whatever else I choose to post. At the time of writing it is just coming up to the end of 2020. A crazy year.

Just 12 months ago I had various plans and products ready to launch for the DJ industry and self-promotion. Everything has been stopped in its tracks since Covid 19 kicked in. Devastating to the DJ and entertainment industries.

It’s been an awful year. I’m one of the lucky ones. Being an unsociable DJ and mostly keeping myself to myself means I don’t really have any kind of DJ career to lose. But I know many good lads and lasses who are currently really struggling. To you guys I really wish you the best coming into 2021. Who knows what’s coming. In fuck knows we trust!

On a personal level, my own projects are on hold and it seems the only thing I can really rely on to stay firm is actually enjoying music and DJing itself. It’s ironic that being stifled in my tracks has actually given me the space to just enjoy the decks again. Every cloud,,,,,,

So 2021, new blog, new focus. Simplified. Chilled. More music. No stress.

This blog will purely focus on my own musical tastes. I have done various projects in the past with other people but never really expressed my own DJ sound in the way I want to. At 45, and with a decent level of talent still at my fingertips, maybe it’s time I nail that sound down so I can share it once and for all.

I hope you enjoy my blog and radio station and thanks for reading.

Matty England.
